Hi everyone, Hui Jie here! I am a final year student studying Geography in NUS. As part of the module GE4237, The Eco Collective is created to document current issues about environmental pollution. I hope that this blog will be an engaging medium to educate fellow students about the ways we are polluting the environment and what we are doing to fight and solve these problems.

Goals for The Eco Collective

The Eco Collective will be focusing on issues surrounding the fashion and cosmetics industries. In the next few months, you will be exposed to pollution problems resulting from the production, distribution and consumption of fashion and cosmetic products. Plus, I will also be conducting a deep dive with experts to provide even more insights about the harmful effects of these industries. However, I believe it is always good to end on a positive note! The later part of this blog series will then focus on upcoming solutions and methods to improve the issues of pollution. Throughout the blog I will also provide personal reflections and critical perspectives (it is always important to question what we are presented with!). Personally, I am guilty of consumption without thinking of the origins and effects of my actions. Thus, this blog is not only to raise awareness for its readers, but it is also a process of self-evaluation and change.

While the bulk of my posts will be about these topics, I hope that the blog serves as a starting point to engage with more issues about the environment in the future. The word ‘collective’ is thus an inspiring notion to supply this blog with an increasing number of posts even after this module ends.
